Christian Community Theater production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat to collect coats for donation to the San Diego Rescue Mission.
Christian Community Theater is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a comeback of biblical proportions this summer. Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the beloved Andrew Lloyd Webber rock opera, will light up the stage at the historic Mt. Helix Amphitheatre in La Mesa weekends July 23-August 8, 2010. The classic musical tells the remarkable story of the sibling rivalry between Joseph, “Jacob’s favorite son”, and his eleven other brothers.
In addition, as part of the its dedication to helping those in need, the Christian Community Theater will be collecting new and lightly worn coats, sweat shirts, sweaters and other winter wear items to be donated to the San Diego Rescue Mission (Download the Wishlist for Homeless Guests). Founded in 1955, The San Diego Rescue Mission (SDRM) is a faith-based organization that offers safe-haven as well as restorative care and rehabilitation services to the homeless, addicted, abused, and poor in our community. The “Joseph” coat drive is part of the Mission’s “Christmas in Summer” campaign, designed to collect desperately needed donations at a time most people don’t think to give. Cast and crew members for the show have reached out to their local churches across San Diego County to join the effort. A special collection bin will be located on Mt. Helix for all performances, as well as at other designated sites. The coat drive will kick off at the CCT 30th Anniversary Celebration performance July 17, 2010 at 7:30pm. This one night only performance will feature a musical review of favorite numbers and cast members from past shows.
With a brand new set design provided by production designer Travis Russell, fun and youthful choreography by Janie Russell and Renee Rebold, as well as a fresh rock sound from musical director Taylor Peckham, this show is unlike any Joseph you’ve ever seen before.
Performance dates for Joseph are July 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, 31, August 1, 5, 6, 7 and 8 at 8:00 p.m. at the Mt. Helix Amphitheatre, 4901 ½ Mt. Helix Dr., La Mesa, CA 91941.
